My Story
The weather first interested me when I was a little kid. My mom says I used to stand my the old box television and give the weather report with The Weather Channel. My interest was really sparked when I was in 6th grade. We learned about the weather in science class during the same time Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast. We watched live news coverage before, during, and after the event. I was so shocked at how much damage the hurricane had caused and knew my calling was to help prepare people for events like that.
I am double majoring in atmospheric sciences and geography with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in GIS. My time at UGA has helped me further my understanding of the weather and how I can use my skills to help others. Over the summer, I interned at WRBL in Columbus, GA for broadcast meteorology. This helped me learn the TV side of the weather world.

Outside of classes, I am the president of the UGA chapter of the American Meteorological Society where I help plan events with guest speakers in our field and talk with local schools about the weather. I also love to spend time reading murder mysteries and rom-coms and petting my cats. You can find me at wxkarissa on all major social media platforms.
