Most of North Georgia had high temperatures in the upper 90s today, and they are unfortunately expected to continue until Wednesday. Along with this, dewpoints in the mid 60s will be expected for most of the region along with mostly clear skies making for a muggy and hot start of the week. Rain chances will consist of afternoon pop-up thunderstorms, but will remain low during the start of the week. These rainfall chances will increase in coverage as you go through the week, hopefully bringing some relief to the drought our region has been facing by the end of the week.
Temperatures will be nearly uniform over the next couple of days because of a high pressure system that will be dominating our region. Most of North Georgia saw 97 as a high today, and looking ahead does not bring an end to the heat. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday will likely be in the upper 90s, isolated areas in our region will see 100 degrees during this stretch, maybe even for multiple days in a row. As a result, some of these high temperatures will be near the records, but most likely not breaking them. Sunday and Monday is looking to be the hottest, while Tuesday is expected to be a little cooler, but still highs in the mid to upper 90s are expected. Low temperatures overnight will linger in the low to mid 70s for us here in North Georgia. By the end of the week, forecast models have most of the region cooling off as high temperatures will be in the upper 80s starting of Friday extending through the weekend, but as a trade off, it is looking to be wet and rainy.
